Meet Our Presenters

Katie Bonevento

Katie Bonevento is a third-year English major and women's studies minor at the University of Florida. She is president of the English Society and has previously served as lead conference coordinator for the 2020 Undergraduate English Conference. She is looking forward to beginning her honors thesis on Shirley Jackson's novels this coming fall. In her free time, she likes to read, watch movies, spend time in nature, and play with her cat, Harvey.

Hannah Calderazzo

Hannah Calderazzo is a 4th-year English major graduating Summa Cum Laude with minors in French and Francophone Studies and Mass Communication. This is her fourth year presenting at the UF English Undergraduate Research Conference, and she has also presented at the Undergraduate Poster Session at the North American Victorian Studies Association conference in both 2018 and 2019. Her article "Understanding the Victorian Unfeminine" was recently published in the UF Journal of Undergraduate Research, and she is a member of the 2021 UF Honors Program Hall of Fame.

Jocelyn Dzuong

Jocelyn Dzuong is a 2nd year English major with an interest in Film Studies as well as double minoring in Computer Science and Mathematics. She works part time as a collections assistant at Smathers Libraries as well as a web developer. Her three favorite films are Charade, Carol, and Desert Hearts. Her three favorite authors are Haruki Murakami, Kurt Vonnegut, and Donna Tartt.

Franco Graaff Jordao de Magalhaes

Franco Magalhaes is a freshman at the University of Florida currently studying English. His paper explores the alienation of self as portrayed in James Joyce’s The Dead and T.S Eliot’s “The Love Song of Alfred J. Prufrock.”

Marian Hernandez

Marian Hernandez is a Psychology and Women's Studies double major with minors in Classical Studies and Disabilities. She's thrilled to discuss the topic of her presentation and to form part of this conference today!

Alec Kissoondyal

Alec Kissoondyal is in his first year at the University of Florida pursuing a bachelor's degree in English. He is a Santa Fe College graduate, and a Gainesville native. When he is not studying, Alec enjoys reading, creative writing, and listening to anything released by Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds.

Halley Lane

Halley Lane is a third-year student at UF. She is pursuing degrees in both English and Criminology, as well as a minor in Philosophy. She is also currently preparing to apply to law schools this upcoming fall. Today, she is presenting her paper "Sentimentalizing the 'Saint' and the 'Savage': Attempted Reconciliation Through Hope Leslie."

Isabelle McConville

Isabelle McConville is a senior at the University of Florida. She is an English major with a minor in Educational Studies. She loves to read and write, and one day hopes to have Young Adult novels of her own published someday.

Emily Miranda

Emily is a first year English and Economics double major. She is also involved with UF’s Student Conduct Council and the pre-law fraternity Phi Alpha Delta.

Layla Slate

Layla Slate is currently a second year Women’s Studies and Political Science double major. She is hoping to minor in English as well. In her free time, she likes to read, write, and make art.

Delaney Sullivan

Delaney Sullivan is a third-year student at the University of Florida pursuing her bachelor’s degree, with a major in English and a minor in linguistics. Her focus is on young adult and children’s literature, mostly because she is slightly obsessed with the Twilight saga. Delaney is currently working of her honor’s thesis on emerging themes in gay men’s coming out narratives in queer young adult literature. When she isn’t writing academically, Delaney writes weekly articles for Her Campus UFL, a college magazine for women by women, on lifestyle, campus ongoings, and anything bookish. She plans to attend graduate school and pursue another degree in English.
